Watching the way our community is reacting to news of the Krewella lawsuit makes me want to throw up and die. I listen to myself talk about it and even I want to slap me, because the soap opera nature of it all fully obscures the sad, sad, sad underneath. Can’t be mad at you guys or myself, after all this is the first TMZ-worthy lawsuit to shake up EDM and everyone’s too hyped to talk about what’s real.
To me, Krewella is the most prolific act to come out of the so-called mainstream bubble. Of everyone from this time period I will remember them the most, and I pray to the sweet baby Jesus they’re still rocking ass in 2026. In another time not so long ago, internal band disputes might have been resolved in a kitchen in Chicago, maybe with their parents present. Now it’s all tabloid news and $700 an hour attorneys.
Major props and giant hugs to the only people who seem to not be acting like reptiles right now, the two remaining members of Krewella themselves, who published really moving and loving statements here and here refuting Kris’ claim about forcing him out and sending love to everyone, including him. Regardless of what happens, this represents an end of innocence in EDM game. Handshake deals and best friend DJ pacts are going to be replaced with contracts full of litigated language, the industry will grow up in the face of this. Sad/true/love/money/party/lawyers.
