LOL Robert Sillerman, the billionaire reptile behind SFX Entertainment who got off a private plane in Miami for Ultra Music Week last year flipping off cameras and grabbing his dick certain he was in the process of conquering EDM game in the US. Flash forward to August 2015 where their quarterly losses are being reported at around $48 million – Forbes can tell you all about it.
Thank goodness someone made a GIF of the flip off/dick-grab vid Sillerman has long since deleted, but here’s why I think everything about this guy is so great: his failure in the face of Live Nation and Ultra’s success is a testament to what it really takes to EDM in America. Money can’t buy vibes, and a vibrational experience is what anyone peddling electronic music in any form is selling. The people who are succeeding where SFX is failing love dance music culture, their hearts are in this. The influx of cash just brought their business models to full realization.
Sillerman admitted in 2012 he didn’t know shit about EDMing nor did he care. He’s now copped to the fact that he may have had a “misunderstanding of the complexity and time of marketing partnerships.” Reptiles like this would have you believe that money and balls can achieve anything and it’s a tremendous relief for me to know that’s not true. Underneath it all, even amidst the great McDonald-ization of our beloved scene in this country, the secret sauce that makes it all tick is still LOVE. LOVE TRUMPS MONEY – believe it. God bless America.
